Kenyan lawyers have been urged to remain abreast with developments in the legal space to improve their adjudication of cases.

Chairman of the Media Complaints Commission Mr William Oketch who addressed this year’s Law Society of Kenya’s Annual Conference in Kwale pointed out that mediation especially required high expertise owing to uniqueness of the various cases.

“Advocates need to keep up to date in today’s ultra-competitive legal market and continuously develop their skills as law practitioners, as the legal industry can change quickly. Those who cannot keep up with the latest tools and trends may be left behind”, said Mr Oketch

The Complaints Commission exhibited its services at the conference to sensitise members of the Law Society of Kenya on the Media Complaints Commission’s mandate and its dispute resolution mechanism especially during this electioneering period.

The event’s main theme highlighted the Election Laws, Rule of Law and Good Governance, as important tools in the upcoming election. It also provided insights on modern legal practice and technology as a tool of trade in commerce and dispute resolution.

The event brought together over 1,500 advocates from across the country to discuss, network, and stay up to date on the latest practices and developments in the legal profession. It also aimed at determining the nature and propriety of professional advice rendered by the Complaints Commissioners to the Council.
