Commissioner Polly Gathoni is a seasoned executive with a distinguished career spanning over two decades in business, finance, and information and communications technology (ICT). A Certified Professional Mediator, she brings a unique blend of strategic acumen and dispute-resolution expertise to her role. Currently serving her second term as Commissioner, Ms. Gathoni’s previous tenure from 2020 to 2023 was marked by significant achievements.

Her contribution was instrumental in repositioning the Commission as a leading advocate for media freedom. By championing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and media self-regulation within a democratic framework, she has fostered a culture of efficient and equitable dispute resolution.

With a Master of Science in Management Information Technology from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA, USA, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Ms. Gathoni possesses a robust academic foundation. Her professional experience includes a pivotal role as Divisional Financial Controller at State Street Bank, Quincy, MA, USA, where she excelled in financial planning, budgeting, and technological innovation.

Ms. Gathoni is a sought-after consultant, offering expertise in business risk management, finance, operations, and ICT to a diverse clientele, including corporations, financial institutions, and microfinance organizations. Her academic contributions extend to part-time lecturing positions at Mount Kenya University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
