The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) is set to take its operations a notch higher following the gazettement of four Council members by the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy William Kabogo.

In a Gazette Notice dated 25 July 2025, veteran journalist Joseph Maina Muiruri was reappointed as Chairperson. A distinguished media leader, Mr Muiruri will steer the Council’s governance for another three years.

Ms Susan Karago, Mr Timothy Wanyonyi and Ms Tabitha Mutemi were also reappointed as board members, bolstering the Council’s ability to navigate Kenya’s dynamic media landscape. Mr Joram Temesi Mukami, the Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, has been appointed the Ministry representative in the MCK board.

This continuity ensures stability as the sector grapples with digitisation, AI and changing audience trends. The new development comes at a time when the revised Code of Conduct for Media Practice 2025 comes into effect, strengthening the Council’s efforts towards media professionalism and accountability in Kenya.

“These reappointments reinforce our reforms, champion press freedom and enhance media professionalism and public trust,” said MCK CEO David Omwoyo.

The reappointed members’ three-year term began on 25 July 2025. The Gazette Notice also announced four board vacancies, to be filled per the Media Council Act, 2013.
